Will Kids Head to Netflix for a New Sandler Fix?

News of a four-movie deal between Adam Sandler and Netflix got KidSay thinking about Sandler’s success with kids. Adam Sandler is one of the few names that has been mentioned as a “favorite actor/actress by kids in every Trend Tracker survey since the beginning in 2001.

KidSay thought it would be fun to map out Sandler’s “favorite actor/actress” rankings. We sorted the results by age/gender segments: tween (ages 8-11) and teen (ages 12-15). We’ve also included approximate timing notations of box office releases starring Adam Sandler. Sandler’s more recent films have lacked the box office success of his early career, but he’s just as popular as ever with kids.

In looking at the trending chart below, you’ll see that the hardest group for Sandler to stay connected with is tween girls. The rankings also suggest that films such as Mr. Deeds – containing equal parts of Sandler’s trademark punchlines and somewhat emotionally connected storyline – have the broadest appeal and provide the best opportunity for connecting with tween girls.

While recent releases haven’t fared as well as Sandler’s ‘classics’ at the box office, he continues an upward trajectory with kids. For Netflix, it may just be the best time to have signed Sandler to the team.

Note: This trend chart only includes data points listed in Trend Tracker’s published during the middle of the year and at the end of the year. Publication dates and periods have changed since 2001. There are currently five regular Trend Trackers spaced throughout the year. The chart does not list DVD and other releases which may have affected Adam Sandler’s popularity.
